I have just been informed that Michael jackson has passed away. He died last night in his sleep. This is a big loss for those who have enjoyed his wit and prose for many years with not only Scotch but beer. I have only spoken with him in passing over the years while at whisky shows but never had a real opportunity to sit down and break bread. I am sure he is having a fine dram where ever he may be.

Cheers,

Jeoff

Hi Jeoff,

Peter posted the sad news earlier this evening but I wasn't sure whether Michael's death had only occured this morning so I removed the posting in case any of his close friends all over the world had not yet been notified. I expect the news has got around fast.

Hi Raymond ,
Serge has a tribute over on his site , Whiskyfun.com, no fun at the moment tho....
The first time i came across Michael was watching his excellent Channel 4 series "The Beer Hunter" , then later on i , like many others , took guidance from his Malt Whisky Companion .
He will be missed .

Michael will be a big loss to the beer and whisky fraternity world wide.
To say he promoted malts would be an understatement, he really was a Legend and his legacy will live on for many years into the future.
I have a lovely story about the man, who I knew quite well, and it goes something like this:
He stopped me one morning in San Francisco in the hotel foyer and asked me some production questions re:malt whisky.
I said "Michael my meter is ticking" and before I could go any further, he stood up and said "I'm supposed to be the miserable bastard, coming from Yorkshire" "I'll get the information for free from some other poor unsuspecting egotist"
With that we both went to the bar and had ourselves a large malt!!
I respected Michael.

Sir John

I too have a small story as I suppose many of us do.He made me smile and laugh. I had taken the book that my boss keeps behind the bar, to be signed by Michael, to Whisky Live. I asked Michael to sign the book, explaining it was my boss's book. A few editions had been printed since that one and Michael picked up on this and said "Isn't it about time your boss got a new one".
I do like a good sense of humour,
A sad loss.

I have only known Michael through his writings, full of inspiration and systematic approach. I have a 4th Edition of his Malt Whisky Companion and I've been looking forward to its new editions. This is too sad to realize they will be no more. Michael was also charming in his short essays in the Whisky Magazine, so serious and so funny. I am sure his passion in malt will stay in all of us.

I came across this article this morning, one of Michaels last pieces. It makes for both humorous, and sadly now poignant reading.

I share with you all and offer my condolences to his Family and Friends...

Michael Jackson is now among the Angles that take their share.

Rest In Peace

I met Michael a few times and he stayed with me here in N Ireland and also at Bladnoch. Funny thing is I don't think I ever took any photos which is a pity. I have nice memories of a really nice guy but they'll keep for another day.
