Hi all

From today LIDL have a bottle of a 28 year old Highland Single Malt for sale at £29.99. They also have an 18 year old Speyside for £19.99 (I think). Both are 40% abv.
The 28 year old is "limited" to 3600 bottles.

Get 'em while you can they won't be there for long.....

Any bets as to what they are?

The 28 year old is distilled, matured and bottled by Wm Maxwell of Edinburgh.
From the map on the box it looks like it is more likely a Speyside than a true Highland........though I do have my fingers crossed for Brora (that is a joke by the way)

yes John, I think we're all very confident it's gotta be a Brora .... excellent value.

any tasting notes for the lidl 28yo highland? some of the supermarket region single malts can be quite good for the money (and provides a fun game of guess the distillery - even if like me you pick the easy option of islay).

I have to say that I haven't tasted it and even if I had, would probably not be able to say with certainty what it is ... but I'm home for the weekend and my first bit of shopping is to the local Lidl store to see if they stock it.
Besides with this cold spell I need some bird seed. On the subject of cold it was +2c when I went outside this morning in Banbridge, although it was frosty last night. The temperature at Bladnoch, according to my computer is -5c

I don't know anything about the mentioned whisky, but I did buy a Highland Whisky from Lidl in Germany a few years back - a twelve year old. A few people meant it was from Tamnavulin...
The taste was nothing special...

Anyway - why should they sell a 28-yo Brora (or Clynelish) for 30 £ ??

"If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is" - one of my favourite quotes... :-)

Don't tell me you're skeptical.
