Ray, your comments on the cricket match remind me of the movie "Chariots of Fire". Besides the drama of the true Olympic events, the main thing I took away from the film was the sportsmanship that sadly seems to be lacking today.

For most people, a show of sportsmanship today is a rarity and it makes "news". In the "old days", a lack of sportsmanship was shocking and indeed, scandalous.

Footballers and clubs are overpaid for what they do. The game has become detached from reality and the sooner the bubble bursts the better.

How can these salaries be justified? My opinion is that if everyone stopped subscribing to Sky sports then maybe the sport would wake up.

On Ryanair's website today, they're inviting you to...

"Visit Ireland, the home of cricket"

Nice one!

Hi Andy,
You are absolutely right, but at least sports etc offers a bit of transparency - you can see for yourself how these people perform but when it comes to members of company boards (like in banks), who easily pocket millions, nothing of what they do shows until it´s too late. And guess who´s there to pick them up?

P.S. 1950 postings, also my year of birth. Needs a bit of celebration when I get home from work tonight.

Aye, a nice dram of 1950 Macallan for you "lad".

Andy, just look at the impending labor stoppage threatening US Football (the NFL). Here are two groups arguing over how to divide a professional sport that brings in $9 billion dollars of revenue (not profit) per year!

Only one team, The Green Bay Packers, is a "public" team and so they have to disclose their financial records. Last year, they made $9 million dollars but in previous years, they made up to $32 million dollars. Since they beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl this year, it will be interesting to see how much money they make. The last time the Packers won the Super Bowl was in 1985 but the revenue stream has grown dramatically in the last 25 years. My guess is that they easily top the $32 million dollar mark.

And yet, there may not be a full season next year; or perhaps, no season at all. $9 billion dollars in revenue and they are fighting over shares in it! Greed seems to know no bounds.

Hi Francis,
You are welcome. Took some time to get here. Postings a lot quicker though I feel like a bit of a veteran on the forum as well.
How is the Daftmill whisky doing by the way? When will you put it on to the market? Any chance of sending up a Forum bottling for a test balloon?

Åke
