Yesterday I saw, in my unopened bottle of Bladnoch 6 yo Lightly Peated, a black cloud.
It appears to be some kind of black powder / dust that was lying on the bottom of the bottle.

Is this due to non-cillfiltration, bad filtration, or something else?
Did anyone else experienced this with his bottle ?

I seem to remember that one was pre-bottling machine so it would have been hand bottled direct from the cask - so filtration was minimal - resulting in your charcoal "cloud"

Hi Stijn,

The bourbon barrels are usually the worst. We filter all the charcoal pieces and flakes and even most of the fine sediment but some gets through. Unfortunately you don't usually notice it until it gets a few days of settling.
Perfectly Harmless ..... at least that's what they say ... not so much a sip, as a chew.???

It gives it added authenticity in my opinion.

I think it is great and adds to the authenticity that this is whisky just as the good lord intended

au natural!

Carbon Trust?? .... nope ..... just good old fashioned soot!

We live in a world of High street mediocrity where everything has to be the same and produced to look good so we don't complain. Thank god we have Bladnoch

Andy, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.
I was just wondering what it was, and if others have the same in their bottles.

PS: by 'the good lord', you mean Raymond? ;\)

True Gordon but its probably more authentic if it is left in rather than put back in ;\)
